Our vision: The Spirit of Philotimo (Φιλότιμο)
It’s a Greek word with no true English translation. It means doing good for the sake of good. It’s honor, humility, generosity and a love for one another. It’s that feeling you get when someone remembers your name, your favorite order, and asks about your family.
Our story begins long before MEZO – in the ovens of Dedham House of Pizza, where for nearly 50 years, families have gathered around slices made with care and tradition. It’s where we learned that food isn’t just what you serve – it’s how you serve it. Every pizza, every salad, every gyro – it all starts with the same purpose: to feed people the way we’d feed our own.
When we opened MEZO, we didn’t just want to expand a business. We wanted to expand that feeling – the warmth of the pizzeria carried into the light, fresh soul of the Mediterranean. Different kitchens. Same heart.
But MEZO is also something more – a tribute to a generation that is nearing an end. A generation of grandmothers who were the backbone of every home, who rose before the sun and cooked through the night, who filled the house with the smell of bread and lemon and love.
They grew their food from the earth, tended their gardens with their hands, and taught us that real nourishment comes not from what’s on the plate, but from the heart that prepares it. Their recipes, their patience, their quiet strength – they are the unseen foundation of everything we serve today.
MEZO celebrates the flavors of Greece and the Mediterranean coast – olive oil, lemon, herbs and sea salt – the same ingredients that define not just our cuisine, but our values. And those values haven’t changed since day one: hospitality, generosity and community.
Together, Dedham House of Pizza and MEZO tell one story – a story of family, of neighbors, and a small town that’s big on heart. A story that says “We don’t just make food, we make people feel welcome”
